Developing Engineer Scheme

Home / Developing Engineer Scheme

Some time ago, AEGIS identified that to meet its growth aspirations there was a clear need to introduce new engineers to the business at all levels, including graduates. But AEGIS also recognised that it had a responsibility to the industry and to those graduates to offer them the best possible support in the early years of their careers. As part of this thought process, AEGIS set out to provide its graduates  the opportunity of being part of an accredited Developing Engineer Scheme.

AEGIS sought guidance from experts within the rail industry and the Institutions as to the best path to follow for its engineers and for the company. The chosen route was to develop a standalone scheme accredited through the IMechE and utilising its Career Developer Tool. This will enable members not only of the IMechE but also other institutions such as IET, etc. to develop themselves with the support of the company, to achieve IEng or CEng status.

Following some months of discussion and development, AEGIS submitted its proposed scheme to the IMechE in February and is proud to say that the scheme has been registered.

The scheme is now being used by AEGIS graduates and the IMechE will undertake a review in 6 months time. AEGIS will have an accredited Developing Engineer Scheme once this review is successfully completed.

This is great news for AEGIS, its graduates and great news for the industry. It demonstrates that smaller organisations can also play their role in developing Engineers of the future. Well done to all involved!
