AEGIS moves to Derby!

At the end of February, AEGIS HQ relocated from Huddersfield to Derby. The new offices are located in Pride Park and are easily accessible to all of AEGIS' existing and future clients. Why not pop in for a coffee and an informal chat about your project requirements?

Class 458/5 Modifications

Alstom Transport, Rugby has recently been awarded a contract to modify vehicles from the existing four-car Class 458 and eight-car Class 460 fleets in order to produce a combined fleet of five-car Class 458/5 trains. AEGIS is providing engineers in leading roles as part of the engineering and design functions.

This work is programmed to last throughout all of 2012.

Windhoff Electrification Train

Network Rail has placed an order with Windhoff for a custom built electrification train. The 23-vehicle train will provide a complete electrification service as it moves along sections of track, completing everything from foundations and stanchions to installing and testing the overhead line equipment.

Windhoff has awarded AEGIS the contract to manage the approvals of the new train.

LU Tunnel Cleaning Train

LUL has awarded Transys Projects a contract to provide electrical systems to a new Tunnel Cleaning Train. TPL has awarded AEGIS the contract to undertake the RAMS and EMC assurance activities for the new systems.

Diamond Light Source Beam Lines Personnel Safety System

The Diamond Light Source is the UK national synchrotron facility. Located in South Oxfordshire, it generates brilliant beams of light, from infra-red to X-rays, which are used in a wide range of applications, from structural biology through fundamental physics and chemistry to cultural heritage. AEGIS continues to support the development and implementation of the SIL 2 Personnel Safety System for each Beam Line, with Phase 3 commencing in 2012.

Independent Engineering Support to Alstom Transport

Alstom Transport is undertaking a schedule of reliability works on the Class 180 Coradia Trains owned by Angel Trains. AEGIS has been nominated the Independent Engineer responsible for approving the modifications.

RAMS Assurance Management for Bombardier new builds

AEGIS managed the development and implementation of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) assurance cases for the Class 378 EMU and Class 172 EMU fleets. AEGIS has recently been awarded the contract to provide RAMS and LCC management support to Bombardier for the latest Class 377/6 Electrostar being procured by Souther Railways.

Project Engineering Support to Alstom Transport

AEGIS is currently providing mechanical and electrical engineering support to Alstom Transport, covering system reliability improvement and testing, management of legacy engineering issues, safety risk assessment, development of fleet modifications, training in fault finding techniques and obsolescence management.AEGIS provides engineering staff with capability and knowledge of the specific rolling stock fleets to support Alstom Transport on a number of projects.

Safety Engineering Support to Bombardier

AEGIS is continuing to provide Bombardier Services and UK Divisions with Safety Engineering Support on the in-service and new-build vehicles including the Class 378 and 379 Electrostar and the Class 172 Turbostar. This includes monitoring any emerging safety related issues (e.g. Urgent Safety Related Defects (ex NIR), Rail Accident Investigation Board reports) and safety assessment of maintenance activities.

ICSS RAMS Assurance Management

Hima Sella Ltd has developed a Correct Side Door Enable (CSDE) and Selective Door Opening (SDO) system for use on the London Underground Sub Surface Railway. AEGIS continues to implement the RAMS Assurance strategy for this safety critical system. The work undertaken by AEGIS covers the full RAMS lifecycle including Engineering Safety Management Plan, RAM Plan, Software Quality Assurance Plan, Hazard Identification, Hazard Log development and management, Safety Requirements Specification, Reliability Analyses (FMECA), Safety Analyses (FTA), Software SIL Assessment and authorship of the RAM Case and Generic/Specific Application Engineering Safety Cases.

VMS Safety Cases

AEGIS is developing the safety cases for a suite of new LED based signalling products being developed by Variable Message Signs Ltd. The new modular lightweight signals include multi-aspect colour light signals, position light junction indicator, position light signals and Alphanumeric Route Indicators.

Change Control Management to Bombardier

In addition to the Safety Engineering Support provided to Bombardier, AEGIS also conduct risk assessments against engineering changes to in-service and new build vehicles. AEGIS uses a proven risk assessment process to ensure the level of safety performance established by the Rolling Stock Safety Case is maintained.

Railcare Export AB Approvals Management

AEGIS is providing Safety and Approvals Management support to Railcare Export AB for the introduction of a new Railvac Machine designed for the UK railway.This includes the management of EMC and Noise Testing mandated by Railway Group Standards and Euronorms.

Current Independent Safety Assessment

SSL - AEGIS continues to conduct independent safety assessment of the Sub-surface Line (SSL) S-Stock Post Design Compliance safety submissions. The ISA includes the assessment of the electrical systems compatibility (ESC) safety case which demonstrates S-stock compatibility with LU and neighbouring railways’ signalling and communications infrastructure.

HSL ICSS - AEGIS is assessing the integrity of the SIL 2 Correct Side Door Enable (CSDE) and Selective Door Opening (SDO) system being designed by Hima Sella Ltd for operation on the LU Sub Surface Railway. The ISA covers both hardware and software integrity.

VMS - AEGIS is acting as the ISA for the VMS suite of modular lightweight LED based signalling products.

Quality Update

AEGIS was audited in December 2011 by BSI and successfully demonstrated compliance to ISO9001:2008 with no non-conformances.

Safety Critical Supplier Status

AEGIS is an approved Safety Critical Supplier to Alstom TLS following an audit in November 2011.

ISA Accreditation renewal

AEGIS continues to provide ISA services following renewal of ISA Accreditation from Network Rail in September 2009. AEGIS are registered with the Link-up scheme required by Network Rail for provision of ISA services.
